Kouchner co-founded the aid group Médecins Sans Frontières, which may or may not have links to the security services.

Investigative journalist Pierre Péan has written "The World According to K".

The book reveals Kouchner to be a 'money-loving hypocrite' whose business dealings in the Republic of the Congo and Gabon, between 2002 and 2007, were less than ethical.

Reportedly, Kouchner has spent time with the millionaire Bernard Tapie on his yacht, bought a vacation home on Corsica and enjoyed a life of luxury in the riads of Marrakech.

Kouchner was a government appointed head of a public health body in West Africa.

At the same time he was working as a consultant to two French firms which charged West African countries 4.6 million euros for Kouchner's reports into national health insurance.

Reportedly, Kouchner used his connections to make money in West Africa and then, after becoming foreign minister, pressured African leaders to pay up large sums of money that they owed for his work.
